What is RTS electricity meter?

RTS meters use a radio signal to tell some older electricity meters when to switch between peak and off-peak rates.

How can I tell if I have an RTS electricity meter?

Look for a separate switch box with a radio teleswitch label, especially if your property uses electricity for heating, lacks a gas supply, or benefits from cheaper energy rates at different times of the day. Contact your energy supplier to confirm.

What does this mean for me?

Ofgem expects energy suppliers to replace RTS electricity meters before the service ends from June 2025. It’s important to stay in touch with your energy supplier to ensure you get a new meter installed.

What happens if I do not take up the offer of a new meter?

Your heating and hot water supply might be disrupted or you might end up with higher electricity costs. Find out more here Replacing your Radio Teleswitch electricity meter | Ofgem
